What You Say?

What You Say?

Some have ridiculed my verses and for that they’re gonna pay
I’ll send them my creations at least seven times a day
The quality may not be high but with that many what the hey
You can’t ask for perfection from a guy who’s lost his way

With body aching and with hair that’s turning grey
From the never-ending struggle in the middle of the fray
Where his courage never failed him and fans shouted hooray
Except in Tijuana where you’d likely hear olé

But I’m straying from the central point I want to make today
Which is that I kept going and I held those wolves at bay
If you’ve ever seen a hawk attack a feisty old Blue Jay
You know that courage ain’t enough to have the final say

Even atheists in dire straits may be heard to pray
The toughest looking guys may announce that they are gay
Perhaps some day a rooster will decide it’s time to lay
So it may be time for me to stop and even back away

I’ve booked a room in a nice hotel down in Monterey
Where it’s warm and sunny and where I’d like to stay
And the girls along the beaches seem to want to play
I’ll sit and have cool soothing drinks delivered on a tray

This lends itself to music. One friend said he could  hear Bennett or Sinatra
swinging it. Another said it was all country. It was quite popular.
