Countless times when interviewed I am asked about that note
Was it from a horn, a string, or was it from a human throat?

I do not reveal such private matters even to a friend
And so I’m apt to bring such interviews to a rapid end

Some have severely criticized me for that stance
Kinder ones simply have looked at me askance

Some sneer that I regard a note as such a big affair
I’m inclined to tell such people to kiss my derriere

You see music has been very special all the way
Some compositions affect me more than I can say

Announcing that a particular note is my number one
Seems unkind to all the other notes that also make a run

So I’m sorry if I disappoint you when I proclaim
That the note in question is one I will not name
