I’ve reviewed the places I have been
If I ranked them, which of them would win

Paris comes to mind, I’ve gone there again and again
Strolling through the boulevards, riding on the Seine

A city made for walking, my poor knees will attest
If you are a flaneur, then Paris may be the best

Everywhere I’ve been in France has warmed this heart
I’ve fantasized about a house for me in every single part

But how could anywhere exceed the joys of Italy
The grandeur of Rome, the amazing history

But Spain: Barcelona, Madrid, Seville?
Wine and tapas until you have had your fill

We could go on and on, to Greece and Turkey too
With the islands of the Aegean in my memory’s view

Earlier we lived in England for over half a year
In historic Oxford, many an English beer

And Scotland, villages, islands, and the lochs
Hiking over meadows, scrambling through the rocks

In all the places we have been, it’s the people we have met
That have made our travels such that we shall not forget

And beyond those people, beyond each stunning sight
Was the traveling companion with whom I slept each night
