So you think of poetry as an easy road to take
I caution you, it’s not a piece of cake

Don’t fret on what your poems will be about
Poems are on everything from apple trees to gout

It’s not what you write about, it’s how you do that writing
Technical issues to deal with that may not seem exciting 

You’ll see rhyming used in poems many times
But there is the challenge of finding rhymes 

If you eschew rhyme there’s blank and free verse too
Blank verse require rhythm, in free verse it’s up to you

Poets consider the rhythmic structure within each line
Iambic pentameter for many sounds quite fine  

That’s the structure I’m using in this poem
Count five beats of du DU and you are home 

Don’t let such issues stop you, just sit and start to write
And when you’re feeling lonely you’ll have poetry at night

But there is one major consideration
Don’t plan on any high-end vacation
Because pleasure in your best creation
Will be your only form of remuneration
So hang on to your gainful occupation
