The Workout
I was hoping to write a poem soon in couplets that all rhyme
And I’m getting older faster so I’d better not waste time
But first I’ll play around with the machines here in our gym
Then jump into our pool and have myself a swim
Now the blood is moving faster and I’m feeling pretty steady
Time to fire up my Apple and get some rhymes all ready
First to think of something interesting and I hope inviting
On the other hand let’s not make it too exciting
Readers here are up in years, don’t want to cause a strain
I’ll pick some peaceful words, avoid the thoughts of pain
Like kind words of greeting and a face with a big smile
The way the folks here seem to be almost all the while
But I’m not feeling energetic or poetically inspired
So I’d like to take a snooze, feeling somewhat tired
Don’t think this is the time to think of rhyming verse
If I try to force myself things might get much worse
I expect a reader will cut me sufficient slack
So I can close my eyes, flaked out upon my back
